Beef & Pumpkin Stew

Digestive Health

Ingredients

  • 1 lb lean ground beef (90% lean)
  • 1 cup canned 100% pure pumpkin (not pie filling)
  • 1 cup cooked white rice
  • 1/2 cup diced carrots
  • 1/2 cup chopped green beans
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 4 cups low-sodium beef broth
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. In a large pot, brown the ground beef over medium heat, breaking it into small pieces, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat.
  2. Add the beef broth, pumpkin, carrots, green beans, and turmeric to the pot. Stir to combine.
  3. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low. Cover and simmer for 20-25 minutes until vegetables are tender.
  4. Stir in the cooked white rice and olive oil. Cook for an additional 5 minutes until heated through.
  5. Remove from heat and allow to cool completely to room temperature before serving.
  6. Portion into individual servings and refrigerate or freeze as needed.

This recipe provides a moderate-protein, moderate-fat formulation appropriate for senior dogs. The pumpkin contributes soluble fiber to support digestive regularity and stool quality. The calcium-to-phosphorus ratio of 1.3:1 meets NRC recommendations for adult/senior dogs. The caloric density is suitable for less active senior dogs to help prevent obesity. This recipe is intended to be fed as a complete diet only when the specified supplements are added. Have your veterinarian review this recipe and adjust portions based on your dog's body condition score, activity level, and any medical conditions.

🧊 Safety & Storage

Store in airtight containers in the refrigerator for up to 4 days, or freeze individual portions for up to 3 months. Thaw frozen portions overnight in the refrigerator. Never leave food at room temperature for more than 2 hours. Wash hands and all surfaces thoroughly after handling. Always introduce new food gradually over 7-10 days by mixing with current food in increasing ratios.

⚠️ Recipe Drift Warning

Do NOT substitute pumpkin with pumpkin pie filling (contains toxic xylitol and excess sugar). Do NOT use onion, garlic, or chives as they are toxic to dogs. Do NOT replace beef broth with regular broth containing onion or garlic powder. Do NOT omit the calcium supplement—meat-based recipes are dangerously low in calcium without supplementation. Do NOT add grapes, raisins, macadamia nuts, or chocolate. Any ingredient changes require recalculation of nutritional balance.

⚕️ Always consult your veterinarian before changing your pet's diet.
