Small breed dogs have faster metabolisms and smaller stomachs, so they need nutrient-dense meals. This chicken and vegetable recipe is packed with protein, vitamins, and minerals to support their energy levels and overall health.
Ingredients
- 1 cup (150g) cooked chicken breast, shredded (no bones or skin)
- 1/2 cup (75g) cooked brown rice
- 1/4 cup (30g) finely chopped carrots
- 1/4 cup (30g) finely chopped green beans
- 1 tablespoon (15ml) olive oil
- 1/4 teaspoon calcium powder (optional, for bone health)
Instructions
- Cook the chicken breast thoroughly (boil or bake) and shred into small, bite-sized pieces.
- Cook brown rice according to package directions.
- Steam or boil carrots and green beans until soft, then chop finely.
- In a large bowl, combine chicken, rice, vegetables, and olive oil. Mix well.
- If using, sprinkle calcium powder and stir evenly.
- Let cool to room temperature before serving.
Feeding Guidelines
For small breeds (under 20 lbs), serve about 1/2 cup per day, divided into two meals. Adjust based on your dog's activity level and weight. Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 3 days, or freeze in portions.
